I have been taking photographs since I was about seven years old when my parents brought me a second hand 35 mm camera made by a strange Russian manufacturer, the name of whom I could not pronounce. The first photograph I had printed was one of the estuary at Aberdyfi, where we used to go on holiday, and I was very proud of it. I always remember, however, my uncle, who was a keen photographer himself, taking one look at it and commenting that I had to work on keeping my horizons straight. He was right, of course, and over the years, as a keen amateur, I hope I have improved my technical skills at least a little since those early years.
I am a lawyer by training and now lecture in public, human rights, civil litigation and employment law at Cardiff University. But there is nothing I love more than getting out into our wonderful countryside and experiencing nature whenever I can, and taking photographs at the same time. I have always remembered a quotation from the wonderful photographer Robert Frank when he said "When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of poetry twice". I hope that some of my photographs may stir in you a similar emotion. Thank you for taking the time to view my efforts and if you have a moment I would very much appreciate you writing any comments you might have on the Guestbook page.
I would like to dedicate this website to someone I miss every day, my late Father, Keith, who inspired me to begin taking an interest in photography.
Diolch. Thank you. Jonathan x.
